Connections Portal
Overview
The Connections Portal is a tab within the PicnicHealth patient app where users can manage medical facilities, wearables, and insurance - and, most importantly, request new records to keep their timeline complete.
Problem
Patients often didn’t know where or how to request additional records. Even though the rest of the app offered a timeline view of medical history, there was no clear entry point to fill in missing pieces.
The Connections tab was created to fix this - to bring together all external data sources and make it simple to request updates directly from within the app.

Approach
The design was shaped around three core use cases:
- Viewing all connected facilities, devices, and insurance
- Requesting records from an existing or new source
- Reviewing statuses (connected, pending, needs update)
The design focused on modular cards for each connection type, with dynamic status indicators, expandable details, and lightweight support flows.

Impact
The Connections Portal provided a clear, self-serve space for users to manage data sources and request updates - something that had previously required support outreach or guesswork.
It became a key interaction point in the app, driving more complete medical timelines and reducing confusion around how records got into the system.
